DB’s not a schooled musician. He’s not a cat who has hammered out his craft over the years. DB Martin is a 40-something year old musical phenom. True, he did demonstrate the ability to articulate gracefully at a young age and spontaneously learn to play drums very well as a teen in the city where he grew up, South Bend, Indiana. As fate would have it, music would lay dormant inside this youngest of 6 for over 20 years.

The battery of music that DB is doing today called on him to teach himself to play piano, to develop his lead singing vocal ability, pen the lyrics AND compose the music to an extensive catalog of songs in an inordinately short amount of time. Not to mention his innate talent of being able to get up on stage and do it the way he does.

When asked what some of his musical influences are DB replies, “Songwriters with something to say about the many facets of love and being human, like Lennon & McCartney, Sting, Springsteen, Costello, and Tori Amos just to name a few. If the level of talent in his line-up is any indication of the quality of his music then not much else can be said. Likewise, all of his group-members have a passion for making great music. Its incredible to see it happen live.

Asked what it’s like to be a songwriter in 2006 DB readily replies, “It was always a distant dream to be a songwriter shining my proverbial light in the darkness, but when all this music started pouring out of me, I had no idea how dark things would get. If it’s my job to remind everyone that yes ‘all we still need is love’ then I don’t have a problem with that. Whatever happens from this point on will evolve around making music and helping others.
